Golden Geek Awards

Golden Geek Awards

The members of the largest online community of board game fans, Board Game Geek, have selected the winners of the 12th Annual Golden Geek Awards for 2017, which were announced a few weeks ago. Here are some of the winners:

Best 2-Player Game: Codenames Duet

Best Artwork & Presentation: Photosynthesis

Best Card Game: Century: Spice Road

Best Expansion: Scythe: The Wind Gambit

Best Family Game: Azul

Best Party Game: Werewords

Best Wargame: 878: Vikings Invasions of England

But this year's big winner was Gloomhaven, who practically swept the board winning the Golden Geek Award in six categories, including: Board Game of the Year; Best Cooperative Game; Best Solo Game; Best Strategy Game; and Best Thematic Game.

Gloomhaven, the diceless dungeon crawler, is a game of Euro-inspired tactical combat in a persistent world of shifting motives. Gloomhaven can be played with 1–4 players, but players of the game usually find that 3 players provide the best playing experience. Each player takes on the role of an adventurer, who possesses a unique skill set and personalized background. The player-controlled adventurers must work together to explore and clear out dungeons and ruins. As a reward for their efforts, the adventurers discover loot and gain experience that they can use to enhance their abilities. The adventure continues as the adventurers discover new locations and expand the ever-branching story fueled by the decisions they make.

While Gloomhaven is still out of stock, a reprint is expected. And you can find most of the other winners available at Mishap Games!
